The Board Chairman of the Aluworks PLC, Professor Lade Wosornu says the aluminum industry is in danger following the influx of sub-standard products into the country’s market.

According to him, if not checked, the cost of doing aluminum sub-sector business will collapse.

Professor Wosornu disclosed this during Aluworks PLC annual report meeting on a comprehensive long-term development plan for the company in the competitive aluminum industry.

”Due to the afore-mentioned factors, the competitive advantage of Aluworks, a manufacturer of high quality aluminum sheet products in the country cannot be sustained”.

The Managing Director of the Company Kwasi Okoh said the government must implement stiffer laws to prevent aluminum companies from importing cheap and low-quality aluminum. He pointed out that Chinese companies in Ghana often charge lower prices for goods, which gives an ample opportunity to China to dump goods into Ghana at cheaper costs than in their own country.

”Aluworks through the government has sent GITC to stop the importation of cheap aluminum products into the country”.
