The Minister of Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has held a productive meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, to discuss ongoing and future collaboration between the two nations.

The discussions focused on infrastructure development, energy projects, and debt restructuring.

Hon. Ato Forson emphasised the historical partnership between Ghana and China, highlighting the construction of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant during his tenure as Deputy Minister.

“With China’s support, we built the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant. It’s now time to build a second gas processing plant,” he stated.

The meeting also addressed major infrastructure initiatives announced by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, including the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

Ato Forson stressed that these projects are critical for Ghana’s development and will require support from partners like China. He remarked, “As the Chinese saying goes, ‘If you want to get rich, build roads first.’ Most Chinese-funded projects in Ghana are near completion, and we hope new ones will commence soon.”

On debt restructuring, Hon. Ato Forson appealed for China’s assistance in completing Ghana’s efforts to manage its financial obligations. He noted, “China’s support is vital for our economic stability.”

Ambassador Tong Defa welcomed the discussions and reiterated China’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.

“The bilateral agreement and development partnership are ready to be signed,” he confirmed. He expressed optimism about the future of Ghana-China relations, stating that China is prepared to assist with Ghana’s development goals.

This engagement underscores the growing partnership between Ghana and China in infrastructure development and economic cooperation as both nations look forward to advancing mutual interests.
