The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has revealed details of a $4 million debt owed by McDan Aviation, which led to the closure of its private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Monday, December 30, 2024.

Breakdown of the Debt

The debt, totaling $3,995,622.66 and GHS 13,523.37, includes unpaid fees for land leases, terminal rentals, and other charges. Despite several reminders and a payment deadline of December 25, the debt remains largely unpaid.

Key details of the debt include:

Terminal 1 Rent and Fees: $640,232.48
Block Factory, Spintex Road (5.66 acres): $1,160,827.23
Airport Logistics Building, Spintex Road (10.63 acres): $2,168,266.75
Courier Enclave (0.59 acres): $8,140
Cargo Village Offices: $18,156.20 (GHS 13,523.37)
Additionally, McDan Aviation owes GACL 15% of its gross revenue from September 2022 to November 2024, which remains unpaid.

McDan’s Response

McDan Aviation disputes part of the debt, claiming $2 million relates to a land acquisition currently under legal dispute. However, GACL argues that McDan has developed commercial properties on the disputed land and is earning rental income without paying the required ground rent.

Payment History

On December 24, 2024, McDan Aviation paid GHS 2 million towards the outstanding debt. However, GACL insists on full payment due to previous failed payment plans proposed by McDan as far back as 2020.

GACL maintains its stance, demanding immediate settlement of the debt while highlighting McDan’s failure to meet earlier financial commitments.
