The Public Procurement Authority (PPA) has saved the Country about 1.9 billion cedis in the last 21 months. This is the result of plugging several loopholes in the procurement process.

The establishment of a ‘Due Diligence’ office, otherwise known as a ‘Value for Money Unit’ is also a contributory factor to this success.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Agyenim Boateng  Agyei made this known at the Meet the Press Series in Accra.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority, Agyenim Boateng  Agyei, said the Authority implemented several  initiatives which have ensured  tranparency in the operations of the Authourity.

One of these initiatives is the establishment of a Special Procurement Investigation Unit which conducts random checks into the procurement activities of entities.

Mr.  Boateng Agyei stated that the Authority is also considering increasing procurement threshholds.

The CEO of the PPA said inspite of the successes chalked up, the Authority is still faced with a myriad of challenges as far as its operations are concerned.

He mentioned  lack of funding for their programmes and  delays with release of funds even in cases where government has given approval. The Authority,  he said,  has  to depend on donor funds to run most of its  programmes within the dictates of the donors’ terms and conditions.
