President John Dramani Mahama has strongly vowed to end the era of financial recklessness in state owned enterprises through his resetting agenda.

‘’The era of impunity, mediocrity, and financial recklessness must end today,’’ he stated when he met with CEOs of Specified Entities under the State Interest and Governance Authority, SIGA.

Citing the 2023 State Ownership Report produced by SIGA, President Mahama highlighted the inefficiencies and challenges plaguing most SOEs for far too long, including waste, underperformance, conflict of interest, and detachment from national interest.

He emphasized that many of these entities have been used for personal gain rather than serving the nation’s interests. ‘’Many of our SOEs have been used as mere instruments for generating personal wealth for people appointed to positions within the entity’’

According to him, “this demands that we act with conviction and courage to tackle the systemic challenges confronting these entities.”

President Mahama assured that his administration will take decisive action to reset and transform these entities, with SIGA playing a central role in this transformation. He reiterated his commitment to the Ghanaian people, stating that he will not betray the trust they have placed in him to reset the nation.

This move is seen as a significant step towards promoting good governance, accountability, and transparency in Ghana’s State-Owned Enterprises.
