President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the independence of the Bank of Ghana while urging greater collaboration between the central bank and key institutions to ensure economic stability.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the new Governor and Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, President Mahama emphasised that the bank’s success depends on its ability to work effectively with the Ministry of Finance, Parliament, and the financial sector.

“At this critical juncture in our country’s economic development, it is essential that the Bank of Ghana collaborates seamlessly with the Ministry of Finance, Parliament, and other key stakeholders,” Mahama stated. “This will ensure that decisions made at the central bank are aligned with national economic priorities while still safeguarding the interests of the people.”

The president also underscored the need for the central bank to operate independently, free from political interference. He assured the new leadership that his administration remains committed to upholding the institution’s autonomy, allowing it to function in line with its core mandate.

“I am committed to ensuring that the central bank operates free from political interference, guided solely by its mandates. The strength of our economy depends on institutions that act with independence and discipline.”

President Mahama concluded by congratulating the newly appointed Governor and Deputy Governor, expressing confidence in their ability to steer the Bank of Ghana towards financial stability and economic growth.

“On behalf of the people of Ghana, I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to both of you,” he said. “I am confident in your expertise and vision to discharge your mandate with excellence.”
