The Minority in Parliament have raised objection to the laying of the Export and Import (Restrictions on Importation of Selected Strategic Products) Regulations, 2023 until further consultations are done to ensure traders are not disadvantaged.
The Legislative Instrument is seeking to restrict importation of some 22 items including Cement, Sugar, Canned Tomatoes, Soft Drinks, Mineral water among others.
Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson argued, that such a law will be inimical to the progress of the country as it will result in high food inflation owing to possible artificial shortage.
