Economist, Peter Terkper, has proposed the prioritisation of job creation rather than removal of betting tax as promised by former President and Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.
He argues that abolishing the betting tax could lead to an increase in youth participation in betting, which he believes could hinder productivity.
In an interview with GBC Business News, Mr. Terkper emphasised the importance of providing employment opportunities for the youth to prevent their reliance on betting as a means of income.
E-LEVY
On E-Levy Economist, Peter Terkper expressed strong support for the proposed scrapping of the Electronic Transaction Levy, E-Levy, highlighting its potential to boost digital transactions and reduce the circulation of physical cash in the economy.
Flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, in a community engagement promised to abolish the E-Levy if elected.
Speaking to GBC Business News, Mr. Terkper emphasised that the removal of the E-Levy could encourage more people to use digital platforms, thereby lowering the risks associated with carrying large sums of cash around.
