The Managing Director of Precious Minerals Marketing Company, PMMC, Nana Kwasi Awuah says the legacy debt of the company has become a huge problem affecting its operations. He said as of December 31, 2021, the legacy debt stood at GHC65 million Cedis. Giving an overview of the operations of the PMMC in Accra, Mr. Awuah said as of 2017 the debt stood at GHC30 million, of which the company managed to pay GHC15 million.

However, the debt continues to accumulate interest and it has now shot to GHC65 million. Nana Kwesi Awuah however commended the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mireku Duker for his support so far for helping to turn around the fortunes of the Company.

The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, George Mireku Duker for his part said the Ministry will engage the Finance Ministry to see how best the legacy debt issue can be handled.

He tasked the management of PMMC to engage more with the public and sensitize them on its activities.

Mr. Mireku Duker also told them to collaborate with stakeholders in the mining communities and set up offices in the districts to make them accessible to the firms. Such a move, he noted, will prevent the sale of minerals to illegal dealers.

The Deputy Minister later paid a working visit to the National Assay Laboratory to abreast himself of the operations of the Centre.
