President Akufo-Addo challenges Finance Minister to focus on revamping economy

President Akufo-Addo has urged the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta to put the economy back on sound footing, and help lift it from the ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Jubilee House after Swearing in the Minister of Finance, President Akufo-Addo made a case for visible improvement in the standards of living of Ghanaians, and asked the Finance Minister to work towards that.

He said talk of good micro economic management, fiscal responsibility and GDP growth has to reflect that goal.

The swearing in of Ken Ofori-Atta completes the formation of the government of President Akufo-Addo for the second term having earlier sworn into office 29 Ministers and 16 Regional  Ministers.

This brings to 46 the number of Ministers and regional Ministers sworn into office by the president.

Mr. Ofori-Atta had his vetting delayed after a medical leave in the US.

President Akufo-Addo once again commended Parliament for the expeditious manner in which the nominee was vetted and approved.

He reassured the House of his determination to work with it to ensure the welfare of Ghanaians.

The President praised Mr. Ofori Atta for exhibiting clarity of thought on how to grow the economy and what prospects the economy holds during his vetting.

He was confident Mr. Ofori Atta will put the economy back on the path of progress.

The President tasked Mr. Ofori-Atta to provide leadership that will ensure the policies and programmes benefit all Ghanaians.

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta reassured Ghanaians of protecting the public purse.

Mr. Ofori-Atta earlier took the oaths of office, allegiance and secrecy. He was presented with the instrument of appointment after signing the oath book.
