The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, GNPC, has completed Phase IV of the seismic data acquisition in the northern part of the country. The plan is to drill an exploratory well in the 1st Quarter of 2024.
Speaking at the inauguration of GNPC Retired Staff Association in Tema, the Managing Director of GNPC, Mr Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah said all activities necessary for the successful drilling campaign have been activated.
Since the Golden Jubilee field was discovered in 2007, a number of producing wells have been added. Currently Tweneboa-Eyenra-Ntomme (TEN), Sankofa-Gye Nyame and Jubilee are the fields producing.
Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector has largely been centered in the western enclave of the country, with less activities in the much larger, Eastern Voltaian Basin. This has changed in recent times with GNPC’s inland Voltaian Basin Project.
The GNPC pioneered exploration activities spanning an area of approximately 103,000 sq km.
The Corporation drilled two wells and conducted 2D seismic data analysis over 1700 sq metres, and assessments from these are encouraging.
Speaking at the inauguration of GNPC Retired Staff Association, the Chief Executive of GNPC, Mr Opoku Ahweneeh Danquah said “the Corporation is expediting its search for hydrocarbons in the lnland Voltaian Basin and are also undertaking some major projects to build the Capacity of the Corporation”.
Members of the GNPC Retired Staff Association will support the Corporation with experience and knowledge acquired over the years to enhance its operations.
A former Chief Executive of GNPC who has been credited with lots of the transformation at the Corporation, Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata said the group is not to compete with current staff but compliment their operations to build a strong human resources in the oil and gas sector.
The Board Chairman of GNPC, Mr. Freddie Blay applauded the retirees and pledged the Corporation’s support for the Association.
Other former Chief Executives and Board Chairmen took turns to share some experience with the current staff.
