The Minister for Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has called for stronger business reforms to boost Ghana’s economy.
Speaking at Ghana’s Business Ready 2024 Report dissemination event hosted by the World Bank group and the Government of Ghana in Accra on March 26, 2025, she emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a better business environment.
She said the government is working on an ambitious plan to strengthen manufacturing, expand agribusiness, and improve access to international markets. However, she noted that success depends on strong regulations and efficient institutions.
“To achieve this, the Ministry is implementing the Business Regulatory Reform (BRR) program. This will remove barriers that prevent businesses from growing and ensure better regulations,” she stated.
Hon. Ofosu-Adjare also thanked the World Bank for its support through the Ghana Economic Transformation Project. She highlighted that small businesses still face challenges such as difficulty in getting financial support and navigating complex regulations. She added that many businesses in the informal sector struggle to grow because they are not part of the formal economy.
The Minister praised the World Bank’s “Be Ready” initiative, which aims to create a fair, predictable, and digital-driven business environment. She explained that the goal is not just to improve rankings but to make Ghana a place where businesses can thrive, innovate, and create jobs.
She urged stakeholders to see these reforms as an opportunity rather than a burden. “The journey ahead will not be easy, but it is worth taking. Let us work together to make Ghana business-ready and promote a 24-hour economy,” she concluded.
