Typical of the Christmas season, buying and selling usually booms about two weeks to the celebration.

But this time around, the usual hustle and bustle is missing. A visit to some markets in Accra showed that even though Christmas wares are on display, people are not buying. This can be attributed to the just ended elections and the Covid-19 outbreak.

Radio Ghana’s Sandra Amanfu takes a look at this year’s season and whether or not it would be any different.

A drive through town from GBC, Kanda to the central business district saw most buildings draped with Christmas paraphernalia of red and green. Some institutions have started beautifying their buildings with Neon Lights.

When Radio Ghana got to the Central Business District, particularly Makola and Rawlings Park, most traders have started displaying Christmas wares ranging from clothes, shoes, accessories, Christmas paraphernalia such as Christmas hats, trees, lightening, and food items such as biscuits, hampers drinks among others. The sad aspect is that the traders were complaining of lack of market.

The usual vehicular traffic was also simply not there. Unlike previous years, the markets were also not busy enough. Some traders spoke to Radio Ghana anticipating sales will pick up from next week.
