Veep joins University of Ghana Business School launch 60th Anniversary

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has redeemed his promise made to the University of Ghana Business School, UGBS earlier this year by providing One Hundred laptops to support the University’s one student one laptop initiative for brilliant, but needy students of the University.

In a remark, Vice President Bawumia challenged the UGBS to shift from theory to practical and leverage on technology that will help students become innovative and embark on research that will bring solutions to problems.

He intimated that the University has the responsibility to train people who will take up challenges and turn them to opportunities that will address the needs of society. Dr Bawumia said government will continue to support the University to embark on research that will turn things around. The Vice President made the presentation when he launched the University of Ghana Business School 60th anniversary in Accra.

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia lauded the University of Ghana Business School for being trail blazers in Tertiary Education. He said despite the successes of UGBS, the 60 year journey has been without challenges. He stressed the need for UGBS to continue to lead by embracing technology to consolidate the gains made over the years. He was optimistic that the “laptops will go a long way to assist students in their academic work”.

Pro Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development at the University of Ghana, Prof Felix Ankoma Asante noted that the Covid-19 brought lessons that calls for “a paradigm shift and the UGBS is up to the task to equip students with the requisite skills to meet changing trends”. He said the business school is positioned to achieve more as it draws lessons from the past.

The Dean, UGBS, Prof. Justice Bawole in a remark said the University is working with industry players to provide assistance to start-up businesses. He appealed to the government to assist in establishing of an ultra-modern center for innovation and business analysis.

Started as a College of Administration in 1960, the college later on morphed into the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) is 2004 and has over the years churned out astute members across the globe. The year long Anniversary is on the theme is the Future of Business Education in Ghana: Reflecting on the 60 year Experience of the University of Ghana Business School.
