The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has denied reports on social media claiming that the government has increased cocoa prices. According to COCOBOD, these reports are false, and the public should ignore them.

A flyer circulating online suggests that the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, announced that cocoa farmers would receive 70% of the world market price for their produce. However, COCOBOD says this claim is misleading.

In a statement on its social media page, COCOBOD clarified, “Our attention has been drawn to a false flyer claiming that the Minister for Food and Agriculture has announced an increase in cocoa prices. This information is completely untrue. We urge our cherished stakeholders and the public to disregard this fake news and rely only on official communication from COCOBOD and the Ministry.”

This issue comes at a time when cocoa farmers and industry players are hoping for a possible price increase, especially as global cocoa prices continue to fluctuate.

Cocoa farmers have been asking for higher prices due to increasing production costs and challenges such as declining output and climate change. However, COCOBOD says any changes in cocoa prices will be officially announced through the right channels.

For now, cocoa farmers and the public are advised to wait for official updates from COCOBOD and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
