Presidential Advisor on Health, Dr. Anthony Nsiah Asare says the government’s debt restructuring policy is holding back the start of the construction of the regional hospitals for the newly created regions and one regional hospital for the Western region.

On 8th August 2021, President, Akufo Addo cut sod for the construction of 111 hospitals in districts without hospitals, which included the regional hospitals, two regional psychiatric hospitals, one in the middle belt, and one in the Northern belt.

According to Dr. Nsiah Asare, these hospitals are at various stages of completion with the exception of the regional hospitals which he says, constructions have not commenced due to the debt restructuring program. He explained that the regional hospitals being constructed are externally funded(EPC+F). He added “Contractors have applied and value for money auditing has been conducted, and the contract is with the ministry of finance and when the debt restructuring is signed off, construction will begin”
