The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a stern warning to the public, particularly residents in the Volta and Oti Regions, regarding fraudulent activities targeting customers seeking to acquire meters. This alert comes as the company officially transitions to a cashless payment system, requiring all transactions to be conducted exclusively through the ECG Power App or by dialing *226#.

In a public notice, ECG emphasized that it no longer accepts cash payments for any services, including meter acquisition. The company has identified several individuals and phone numbers allegedly involved in fraudulent schemes, including claims of operating a “coding room” for meter acquisition. ECG has clarified that no such facility exists and that any requests for cash payments to individuals should be disregarded.

The notice specifically listed the following individuals and their contact numbers as unauthorized representatives of ECG:

 1. 0550329820 – Cashier Margaret Mensah
 2. 0547607565 – Mr. Donkor
 3. 0502708675 – Mr. Quansah
 4. 0535287206 – Dorcas Obeng
 5. 0270634977 – Engineer
 6. 0555630099 – Electrician Dzokoto
 7. 0555415610
 8. 0536511563 – Accountant
 9. 0302914894
10. 0544051010
11. 0536597059

The company has also debunked claims that meter acquisition is priced at 495 Ghana cedis, urging customers to rely solely on official channels for accurate information and transactions. It reiterated that any payments made outside the approved platforms are not only invalid but also expose customers to potential scams.

To ensure the safety and security of transactions, ECG has strongly advised customers to use the ECG Power App or dial *226# for all payments. The company has also encouraged the public to report any suspicious calls or messages to the appropriate authorities in their districts.

The move to a cashless system is part of ECG’s broader efforts to modernize its operations, enhance transparency, and protect customers from fraudulent activities. The public is urged to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to the official payment methods to avoid falling victim to scams.
