The Convenor of the #FixtheCountry Movement, Oliver Mawuse Barker Vormawor has been charged with treason felony by the Ashaiman District Court. Mr. Barker Vormamor was arrested on Friday, February 11, 2022 by the Tema Regional Police Command in connection with a post he is alleged to have made on social media that he would stage a coup if the E- Levy is passed by Parliament.

He has been remanded in police custody after he was denied bail due to the nature of the offense. The Presiding Judge Eleanor Barnes ordered the Police to ensure that the defense and three members of his family are allowed access to him every day between 10am and 4pm. According to the prosecution, the Police arrested the accused after complaints that he was inciting some members of the Movement to usurp the executive powers of the country using social media.

The prosecution stated that the accused in one of his social media posts allegedly described the Ghana army as useless and further threatened to stage a coup if the E-Levy is passed into law. The Police therefore mounted surveillance and arrested him on February 11, 2022, upon his arrival from the UK.

Oliver Mawuse Barker Vormawor is to reappear before the Court on February 28, 2022. Outside the Court, members of the movement expressed their disappointment over his arrest.
