Police in the Ashanti region have arrested a male student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST, believed to be the mastermind behind the suspected murder of a final year female student of the school early today, February 27, 2025.
The Police’s arrest of the suspect followed a thorough review of CCTV footage on Campus.
The male student, being held by the Police follows a swift start of investigation to uncover circumstances of the death of Joana Daladem Yabani, a final year Biomedical Science in Biological Sciences student.

She was found lying near the Disability and Rehabilitation Centre on Campus at about 5 am on Thursday and promptly sent to the University Health Services where she was pronounced clinically dead on arrival.
Immediately, the university’s management formally reported the incident to the Ashanti Regional Police Command whose swift investigation has led to the arrest of the male student.
A statement signed by the University Relations Officer, Dr. Daniel Norris Bekoe, failed to name the suspect except to indicate that he is also a student of the university and a co-resident of the deceased in the same Hostel.
The statement revealed that, a search on him by the Police has led to the retrieval of clothes believed to have been used when the crime was being committed as evidence.
Meanwhile, toward safeguarding the security and safety of all members and visitors of the University, the Police have deployed 50 personnel of its Anti Robbery Squad, in addition to 34 officers from the SWAT Unit as well as other mobile teams across the Campus with some stationed at strategic locations.
The statement indicated that about 80 percent of the entire KNUST Campus is covered by CCTV for which reason everybody and activity is under close surveillance.
