Telecommunications Network, Telecel Ghana has announced a review of its internet prices and data services, aiming to provide more affordable and reliable internet access in Ghana. However, the question remains whether this move will be enough to satisfy the demands of a data-hungry nation.

On Saturday, August 10, 2024, Telecel informed its valued customers of the upcoming review, effective Monday, August 12, 2024.

In response, many Telecel users have shared their opinions on the review.

James, a business owner, stated, “As a business owner, I rely heavily on internet services. While Telecel’s data prices are good and affordable, their services have been inconsistent. I hope they improve their internet connectivity without increasing prices to support small businesses like mine.”

Kobby, a student from Abeka, noted, “Telecel’s data prices are good and affordable, but their internet connectivity is slow and sometimes stressful when working on assignments. I hope the review will also improve internet connectivity.”

Shaniece expressed concern that the review might lead to price increases, stating, “If they increase prices, we’ll switch back to our previous network. They should improve internet connectivity, as it can be stressful at times.”

Charles speculated that the government might be behind the price increase, saying, “If prices go up, it’s likely due to government pressure. They’ve realized people are switching to Telecel, so they’re pushing for a review to increase data prices.”

As a leading telecommunications network in Ghana, Telecel has a responsibility to its customers to ensure that any review of its internet prices and data services benefits all users, regardless of their socioeconomic status.

Ghanaians expect a fair and inclusive review that promotes digital equity, bridging the gap between the rich and the poor, rather than worsening existing disparities.

Ultimately, the goal should be to provide affordable, reliable, and quality internet access to all, fostering a more connected and prosperous Ghana.
