The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is set to hold a crunch Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting today, Tuesday, October 15, 2024 to discuss issues concerning the upcoming presidential and parliamentary polls scheduled for December 7, 2024.
The meeting involving leadership of the various political parties and the commission will take place at 11am local time at the Alisa Hotel (Pavilion) in Accra.
According to a statement issued and signed by the Deputy Chairman, in-charge of Corporate Services, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare, the agenda of the meeting is a Follow-up on the discussion on the Re-Exhibition of the Provisional Voters Register (PVR).
Per the statement issued by Dr Asare, each political party is to be represented by only two (2) persons.
Although, the commission is yet to get the buy in from all political parties and stakeholders on the credibility of the PVR , it has gone ahead to issue date and modalities for the printing of ballots papers.
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and some other opposition parties have raised concerns over the credibility of the electoral roll which was recently exhibited across the country.
According to the opposition NDC,++ it detected some irregularities and discrepancies contained in the PVR released by the commission and have called for a forensic audit which the EC chairperson and her team have rejected.
Political analysts and observers believe the outcome of today’s meeting between the commission and political parties will depend on whether the EC chairperson and her chargers could go ahead with their plan timetable for conduct of the 2024 general elections.
Below is the full statement by the EC.
