Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has assured the public that plans are in place to maintain the 80 new schools recently commissioned as part of efforts to transform Ghana’s education system. Addressing concerns about the upkeep of the facilities, the Minister emphasized the government’s proactive measures.

“No country has a natural maintenance culture, but they have maintenance budgets and staff,” Dr. Adutwum stated. He revealed that 50 facility managers have been recruited to oversee the maintenance of the schools. These managers will report directly to the headmasters and headmistresses to ensure the buildings remain in good condition.

Additionally, the Minister noted that the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) will allocate funds specifically for maintenance, preventing damage to the facilities over time.

To keep the schools clean, Dr. Adutwum said the government is collaborating with all District Chief Executives (DCEs) to ensure each school has cleaners assigned to it.

“These measures are essential for sustaining the investment made in these schools and ensuring they continue to provide quality education for years to come,” he added.
