As Ghana strives to advance digital technology, it has become necessary to encourage more girls to enter into the digital world. Based on this, the national girls initiative is aimed at encouraging the female gender to pursue Engineering and ICT courses to prepare them to take up careers in the digital technology space.
For the maiden edition, sixty two(62 )girls selected from six districts of the Ashanti region would be taken through mentoring sessions to be abreast of some operations in Engineering and ICT. Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful was hopeful the initiative will help address the digital technology gap as well as encourage females to acquire skills in ICT.
The Head of Human Resource at the American Towers Company (ATC), partners of the initiative, Letitia Asiedu-Attafuah urged the girls to study hard and take advantage of the opportunity given them.
The Ghana National Girls’ Initiative will be replicated in other regions.
