Benkum SHS faces acute water shortage

The 1998 year group students of Benkum Senior High School (SHS), at Larteh in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region have handed over a mechanised borehole and polytank at a cost of sixty-eight thousand cedis to the school to solve its water challenge.

The Assistant Headmistress of the school in charge of Academics, Esther Akoto, said the school, which has about three thousand population solely depends on Ghana Water Company for its supply of water.

According to her, the school sometimes experience acute supply of water for more than two months.

Ms Akoto further stated that students sometimes have to queue as early as 3 a.m. to fetch water, which endangered them; hence, the provision of the mechanised borehole will help stabilise activities in the school.

The Chairman of the 1998-year group of Benkum Senior High School, Dr Daniel Adu Ankrah, disclosed that the acute supply of water has been a major challenge for the school for a very long time, adding that the construction of the mechanised borehole and polytank will help solve the persistent acute supply of water in the school.

He further stated that his year group unanimously agreed to construct the mechanised borehole because there have been calls from the PTA to provide additional sources of water for the school.
