Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa North, Timothy Ataboadey Awontiirim has stated that the Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, Dr. George Akufo Dampare has introduced some level of discipline into the Police Service and he needs to be supported for his work.

“And I think that’s what the current IGP is trying to do as he espoused before the Committee… we should support him… he has brought some energy and some discipline in the Police Service”, he said.

Mr. Ataboadey Awontiirimhim, a Senior Security Officer disclosed to him how difficult it has become under the Administration of the current IGP to dispatch Police Service Personnel to act as land guards. This according to him is due to the kind of discipline the IGP has introduced into the Police Service to the extent that certain behaviors are no longer acceptable.

He furthermore explained that if an Officer does his work well, he will be promoted and it requires a lot of factors for an Officer to be promoted to a higher rank.

He called on Police Officers to learn how to control crowds in times of chaos.

Mr. Ataboadey Awontiirimhim recommended that the Police Officer works with compassion and integrity and Police Officers who know their limit to everything based on professionalism, with the people’s interest as paramount.
