The Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools, CHASS has made a clarion call on parents to live up to their parental responsibilities towards their wards.
This CHASS explained that since the inception of the Free SHS policy, some parents perceived the policy as a substitution to their parental responsibilities.
CHASS in a communique released and read by the Assistant Secretary of CHASS, Primus Baro at the closing ceremony of the 60th Anniversary celebration in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, revealed that some parents have completely abandoned their responsibilities towards their wards because of the Free SHS policy.
CHASS has therefore made a request for an upward review of the one cedis 56 pesewas feeding fee per student to an amount of five Ghana cedis per student.
Mr. Baro also called on the government to take immediate steps to pay all arrears in respect of money for perishables and recurrent fees owed to schools. He said some schools are having challenges with electricity payment because they are connected with prepaid meters.
CHASS in the communique added that the delay, erratic and non-release of funds to schools, defacilitate teaching and learning.
