Final-year students at Chereponi Senior High School are grappling with major disruptions to their studies due to a week-long power outage that has plunged the entire Chereponi district into darkness. The outage is not only hampering educational activities but is also affecting health services and local businesses.
Students, who are in the critical stages of preparing for their final West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), are struggling to study at night, with the school’s assistant headmaster raising alarms over the severe impact on their academic performance.
The district hospital, also hit hard by the outage, is relying on fuel-powered generators to keep essential services running. In a bid to assist, Hon. Tahidu Abdul Razak, the Member of Parliament for Chereponi, has provided the hospital with two drums of fuel to support their operations.
Amid the crisis, some local entrepreneurs have turned the situation into an opportunity, offering phone charging services to the community. However, they too are calling for a swift resolution to the power issue.
While the Volta River Authority (VRA) has refrained from commenting on the situation, they have assured that efforts are underway to restore power to the district.
