The Dean of the University of Ghana Medical School, Prof Alfred Edwin Yawson, has called on Caregivers, Parents, Doctors and Duty Bearers to protect and pay particular attention to children with special needs.

He said they should see it as a duty, not a burden, to take care of such children.

Prof. Yawson said this at the launch of an awareness project by the Wood and Wentz Samaritan Heart Foundation for children with special needs in Accra. He called on Ghanaians to embrace children with special needs and raise awareness about their conditions.

He said children with special needs require special attention and advised parents with special needs children to take their wards to schools where they will be given special attention to advance their growth.

Co-Founder of Wood and Wentz Samaritan Heart Foundation, Reuben Wood, outlined the foundation’s plans for special needs children, their parents, and the role of volunteers in helping them achieve their potential.

With the launch of the foundation, it is hoped that, as per their special needs, these children will be given equal opportunities, and society will also begin to accept these children and do away with the stigmatisation.
