The Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Tetteh, through the initiative of the Vice President and the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has constructed and commissioned a modern six-unit classroom facility for the pupils of Azza MA Basic School in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The Vice President and the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was drawn to the school on social media and took the initiative to construct the school after some media practitioners in the Krobo area reported and circulated the bamboo structure of the school on social media.
Among these media practitioners are Rite FM, David Ayertey; GNA, Kamal Ahmed; and GBC Sunrise FM, Michael Kofi Kenetey; among other media practitioners in and around the Kroboland, who reported on the dilapidated nature of the school and also decided to flood social media with the pupils accessing education in a bamboo structure.
The attention of Dr. Bawumia was drawn to the school, and after inquiries got in touch with the MCE for Yilo Krobo, Eric Tetteh.
The sod cutting ceremony was done in early February this year, and the school has been commissioned and is ready for use. The facility includes a six-unit classroom block with marker boards fully furnished with dual desks and teacher tables, a library, a staff common room, a six-unit sanitary facility, and a mechanised borehole.
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive, Eric Tetteh, addressing the gathering, noted that government has embarked on numerous infrastructure developments across all sectors in the Yilo Krobo municipality since they assumed power in 2017.
He stated that the NPP government has constructed numerous education facilities that are helping to promote effective teaching and learning in the municipality.
Mr. Tetteh commended the media for reporting on the dilapidated nature of the school, which has resulted in the major facelift.
The Yilo Krobo Municipal Education Director, John Gasu, commended government for putting up such a modern-day classroom block for the pupils of Azza MA Basic School. He used the opportunity to appeal to government to replicate the facelift of the Azza MA Basic School to other deplorable schools in the municipality to ensure effective teaching and learning in the municipality.
The Head teacher of Azza MA Basic School, Akuteye Tetteh, commended all who played a pivotal role in helping the school to see a facelift and promised that they will ensure a good maintenance culture to put the school in good shape.
A cross-section of community members also spoke to GBC News commended the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for coming to the aid of the school. They reiterated that the facility will help promote effective teaching and learning in the school.
