Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong has been sworn in as Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra.
He is the second person to occupy the position for the next five years.
At a brief but colourful Investiture attended by the Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin-Yeboah, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia tasked Universities to expand their infrastructure to cater for the free SHS Students.
He urged management of the Universities to have a student-centered and collaborative approach to student welfare practices to remain relevant .
Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong has been in Executive Management for more than three decades. He was the Chief Accountant and General Manager of the Ghana Food Distribution Corporation, Deputy MD of the Produce Buying Company, Deputy MD and later MD of Tema Oil Refinery, and recently, CEO of GNPC.
In the field of Education, Dr Sarpong holds a BSC degree in Business Administration and a Masters’ degree in accounting.
He is a qualified Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana and holds a PHD in Industrial and Business Studies.
The new Chancellor promised to ”establish a fund to enhance teaching and research”.
The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, challenged the new Chancellor to use his office to support the University to churn out students who will be key players in the development of the country.
He spoke of the need for relevance in academia.
“For you to remain relevant in the global ecosystem, universities in Ghana should be dynamic, innovative and flexible and provide a contextual module of education to solve societal problems,” he said.
Dr. K.K Sarpong takes over from Kingsley Fletcher. He will serve as the Chancellor of the University for the next five years.
