The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and the Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) have expressed disappointment over being left out of the upcoming National Education Forum in Ho, Volta Region.
In a joint statement, the two organisations said their exclusion weakens efforts to develop strong educational policies.
They believe their input is important because they have played a key role in Ghana’s education system for many years.
“As key stakeholders in education, we are surprised that we were not included in this important discussion about the future of education in Ghana,” the statement said.
The National Education Forum is a significant initiative in Ghana aimed at addressing challenges and shaping reforms within the country’s education sector. Scheduled to commence on February 18, 2025, in Ho, the Volta Regional capital, the forum will feature regional engagements culminating in a two-day validation conference in Accra from February 27, 2025.
The Christian groups are therefore calling on the government and the Ministry of Education to reconsider and invite all relevant organisations to the forum. They emphasised that education policies should be made with input from all stakeholders, including religious bodies, teachers, and parents.
They also stressed that leaving them out contradicts the principles of inclusivity and shared responsibility in national education planning. Furthermore, they expressed their readiness to help improve education in Ghana.
“We are ready to work together to improve education in Ghana and hope our request to be included will be considered.”
