Education Minister underscores cyber security in fourth industrial revolution

Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has underscored the importance of cyber security as an integral part of the fourth industrial revolution.

He said in a rapidly changing world, cyber security has become an important area of national security considerations and called for expertise to expose the different dimensions of crime.

Dr. Adutwum was speaking at the inauguration of the state-of-the -art cyber security, Digital Forensic, Artificial Intelligence and STEM Laboratory at the Wisconsin University in Accra.

The University has opened a state-of-the-art facility equipped with highly sensitive, cutting-edge technologies, including advancements in artificial intelligence.

The Centre is designed to serve both academic and consultancy purposes, thereby positioning the University as a leader in technological innovation and advanced research in Africa.

The Minister says the inauguration of the Cybersecurity and Forensic facility at the Computer Department of the University represents a significant milestone towards digital transformation and technological advancement.

It represents the University’s commitment to providing cutting-edge education and training in cybersecurity and Digital Forensics. The Minister emphasised the need for educational institutions to be equipped with the necessary tools and resources to prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.

President of the University, Prof Obeng Mireku said Wisconsin University has consistently been at the forefront of delivering quality education by providing practical skills laboratories that enhance teaching and learning, not only for the University but the entire continent of Africa.

He said these facilities are crucial in equipping graduates with the skills to thrive in the job market. He further stated that, the state-of-the art laboratory represents a remarkable advancement in technology education in Ghana, demonstrating the university’ s dedication to significantly contribute to the nation’s ICT education.

At the ”AI and internet of things” lab at the University, Lecturer at the School of Computing and Technology, Charles Babbage said, they are able to develop, and model automated systems with robots and AI applications.

The inauguration was attended by security Experts, Vice Chancellors, students, IT experts, representatives of the banks and security services.
