Ghana’s Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, is taking a bold step to merge sports and education, aiming to improve the livelihoods of young talents who excel on the field but struggle in the classroom. As part of this initiative, six exceptional players will be sent to Madrid to hone their skills and receive education. This move is expected to unlock the vast potential of Ghana’s youth and provide them with opportunities for growth and development.
The Minister plans to select these six players from various schools, recognizing the enthusiasm and talent that exists among Ghana’s young people. During a visit to Tamale, Haruna Iddrisu was struck by the eagerness of school children, both in and out of school, who shared their passion for football. This experience reinforced his commitment to nurturing young talent and providing opportunities for them to excel.
“I’m sending six players to Madrid who I’m picking from some of the schools. So it’s a huge potential for young people. And if I yesterday was stepping out in my conscience in Tamale , I had to stop by some young school children, whether they didn’t go to school, I have to answer as Minister for Education, or they are children out of school, their enthusiasm was football”; Haruna Iddrisu said.
By combining sports development with education, Iddrisu’s initiative aims to create a well-rounded experience for these young players. In Madrid, they will have the chance to enhance their football skills while pursuing their education. This approach acknowledges the importance of both academic and extracurricular development in shaping the next generation of leaders.
