About 340 students of the Oppon Memorial Senior High School at Kokofu in the Bekwai Municipality of the Ashanti Region who were displaced, following a fire that gutted their dormitories have been asked to go home and report on Monday, February 3.
The fire incidence occurred last Thursday at about 11 am while the students were in class. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
All the belongings of the students have been burnt, leaving most of them traumatized.
A House Master, Dominic Afriyie, told GBC’s Radio Ghana that nobody was hurt. Mr. Afriyie said the fire affected two of the boys’ dormitories and nothing in the two buildings was salvaged.
He said the affected students are now being accommodated in some classrooms and an old Dining Hall.
The school, however, managed to provide the victims with some of basic needs including mattresses.
