A lawyer with the Rastafari Council, Ras Tetteh Wayo says the Ghana Education Service, GES has backtracked on its initial directive for Achimota Senior High School to accept the two students with dreadlocks.
This follows the refusal of Achimota School to enrol the two students because of their dreadlocks.
According to Mr Wayo, following the GES directive on March 20, the Service called for a meeting with all the concerned parties.
Mr. Wayo said during that meeting, the Service sided with the headmistress of Achimota School and backtracked on its initial directive, saying the purpose of the statement released by the Service was to quell the public outburst on the issue.
He said the GES at the meeting said it stands by the headmistress of Achimota School that the 2 students be admitted, but they must cut off their dreadlocks to enrol.
Mr Wayo said the Rastafari Council is shocked at the GES’ reaction, and will therefore look at other ways of resolving the impasse.
