The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the 2024/25 academic calendar will not change, despite recent concerns raised by school heads.

In a statement released on January 2, 2025, the GES announced that Senior High School (SHS) students are to return to school on January 3, 2025, while Primary and Junior High Schools (JHS) will reopen on January 8, 2025.

This follows calls from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) for the Ministry of Education to address financial challenges affecting second-cycle schools. CHASS had warned that if these issues were not resolved, it could disrupt the reopening process and suggested postponing the January 3 reopening for SHS students.

However, the GES has stood firm on the original schedule, urging students, teachers, parents, and the general public to take note and prepare accordingly.

The service reassured stakeholders that the reopening dates remain final and must be followed as planned.
