Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has inspected an alleged toilet facility that has been converted into dormitories for students of the Ghana Senior High School (GHANASCO) in Tamale.

The Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Steven Kweku Owusu who visited the school revealed that, he is sending a report on his investigation to the GES for further action.

A media report alleged that, the school had converted a toilet facility into a dormitory for students, a development the school has since denied.

The Deputy Director General, together with the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Saani Alhassan Shaibu,  also inspected other facilities in the school and later held a closed-door meeting with the Regional Director of Education and some staff of the school.

In his address to the media, he explained that, the GES will soon address the media on the matter.

“Because I was sent by the Director General, it will be proper I get back to him and submit my report to him, so if it becomes very necessary to engage the media, we will let you know, ” he revealed.

The Ghana Senior High School was established in 1960 and currently has a student population of over 3,000. The Management of the school says there is excess accommodation for students and is unaware of the presence of students in the alleged toilet facility.

The Old Students Association has also waded into the matter, describing the report as false. The President of the Old Ghana Senior High School Students Association,   Alhaji Baba Yakubu Muhammed said their investigations have shown that, the report is far from the truth.

“We have unoccupied dormitory facilities in the school. We recently moved students into a new dormitory facility built by the Ghana Education Trust Fund, ” he explained.
