The Ghana Education Service has appointed a three-member committee of enquiry to probe recent report of persistent physical torture of students by some teachers at the Ho Anglican Junior High School.

The Regional Director of Education, Madam Enyonam Afi Amafuga disclosed this in Ho. She did not disclose the names of members of the committee but says they were all selected from the Ho Municipal Directorate of the GES.

Madam Amafuga hinted that the Committee is expected to submit its findings to the Regional GES Directorate within a week.

There has been  growing public outcry over the wanton use of the cane on students at the Ho Anglican JHS in recent times. Some of the students who could no longer endure the torture sessions of late narrated their sorrows to the Ghanaian Times.

It is reported that a female student was hit so hard on her left hand by the cane that her nail fell off the middle finger.

The teenager was subsequently rushed to the mission house of the school for first aid.  When contacted, the headmistress, Madam Evelyn Siayor said use of the cane is not a punitive measure endorsed by the school.

She, however, gave no explanation why the teacher beat the students ruthlessly with impunity in her presence.

  1. The story is not true. The writer lied in the story and has over exaggerated the whole incident. The pupil in question has all her ten fingernails intact contrary to what the journalist reported.
