Management of Ghana Education Service will meet Teacher Unions in Education this Thursday, 20th January, 2022 to discuss issues raised about the new Academic Calendar and contact hours for schools.

A statement signed by Head of the Public Relations Unit, Cassandra Twum Ampofo, said the Ministerial Committee on Schools Calendar engaged representatives of the Unions and School Heads, and will continue to engage the Unions and other stakeholders if they have noted additional concerns since the release of the calendar.

The meeting follows concerns by Teacher Unions in Basic Education asking the Ghana Education Service to immediately suspend the Semester System it is seeking to introduce.

According to the Unions, they were not aware of any policy document before the introduction of the new System.

The statement assures parents, students, teachers and the public that GES will work closely with the Unions and other stakeholders to ensure that the 2022 Academic Calendar is not disrupted.

It reminds parents, learners and school authorities to continue to observe the Covid-19 health and safety protocols.
