Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. Kwabena Tandoh says the country would face serious challenges like sexual abuse, unwanted pregnancies and mental health if there is prolonged closure of schools.
Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs programme ‘Focus’, Mr. Tandoh said this could also affect the work force of the country.
He said the Committee for the reopening of schools is still operating to ensure students are safe to avert the fears of parents and guardians who have raised concerns at the reopening of schools with the spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.
He asked parents to work collectively with the GES to provide a conducive environment for the children.
Dr. Tandoh said the GES has put together guidelines to aid schools in their operation especially in emergency cases.
