The NDC’s 2024 Running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has made a passionate appeal for increased support for the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Cancer Foundation. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is calling on all to contribute to the foundation’s efforts in fighting cancer and improving access to treatment, especially for those in need. This was her appeal when she donated Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis to the board of the foundation in Accra.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang’s generous contribution comes at a critical time when the GNAT Cancer Foundation has highlighted the urgent need to raise GH¢ 17.2 million annually to sustain cancer treatments for its members.

During the recent launch of the foundation, the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of its over 260,000 members by making prudent investments with membership dues to enhance their quality of life.

This led to the establishment of the GNAT Cancer Foundation, following GNAT’s acquisition of the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC). The foundation will absorb treatment costs for GNAT members, their spouses, and children under 18. In this regard , the NDC’s Running Mate Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang contributed Fifty Thousand Ghana Cedis to support the foundation’s efforts.

She commended GNAT for this initiative and pledged her party’s continued support for the cause in the near future.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang also appealed to the public, to support the foundation’s mission of alleviating the burden of cancer among teachers.

The chairman of the GNAT Cancer Foundation’s fundraising committee, Mr. Christian Adinkra, was grateful for the gesture. Member of Parliament Mr Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, also made a personal donation in support of the foundation.

GNAT is calling on all to join their nationwide campaign, “GH¢ 5 for My Teacher,” to help sustain the foundation’s work.
