The Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT says it disagrees with reasons given by the Ghana Education Service, GES for postponing the re-opening date for final year SHS Students after most of them had reported to school yesterday.

A statement signed by the PRO of the GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo said the postponement was to give the form 3 students uninterrupted access in their preparations towards their final examinations.

Reacting to this, General Secretary of GNAT, Thomas Musah explained that students learn better in a controlled environment, devoid of destructions, making the schools the perfect place to prepare for examinations.

Mr. Musah also spoke on observations on the double-track system since its re-introduction.

Meanwhile, the Conference of Directors of Private Pre-Tertiary Schools has bemoaned the situation where GES does not follow the approved academic calendar on re-opening dates.

President of the Conference, Philip Boateng Mensah says the situation has the tendency to destabilize the education sector.

Mr. Mensah also spoke on his observations on the double-track system which was reintroduced at the beginning of the term.
