The Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, says government is committed to improving the welfare of teachers.
In a post on Facebook to salute teachers as Ghana joins the rest of the world to make International Teachers Day, the Education Minister re-echoed government’s commitment to elevating the teaching profession.
World Teachers’ Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is held annually on October 5. Globally, the day is celebrated with a focus on “appreciating, assessing and improving the educators of the world” and to provide an opportunity to consider issues related to teachers and teaching.
In Ghana, the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the National Teaching Council has instituted an award scheme dubbed ‘Ghana Teacher Prize’ to reward deserving teachers who have excelled in the teaching profession profession.
Formerly known as the National Teacher Awards, it has been rebranded ‘Ghana Teacher Prize’ to give it an international standard as the new benchmark.
