Management of Ho Technical University (HTU) in the Volta Region have launched the HTU Gender Policy to affirm its commitment to the University’s core value of social inclusiveness and gender equity. The policy is a set of guidelines to address gender related issues and to promote the rights of female staff and students in particular.

Management has also initiated plans to establish a Gender Affairs Office at the University to ensure the effective implementation of the Policy.

Launch of the Gender Policy coincided with this year’s International Women’s Day celebration which was used to honour female staff for their hard work and to encourage them to strive for the University’s development.

The Vice Chancellor of HTU, Prof. Ben Honyenuga said Management is poised to provide a ”conducive environment devoid of discrimination and harassment against staff, students and other stakeholders in the University”.

He was hopeful that the policy will deepen affirmative action to place more women in managerial positions at the University.

A Lecture, Civil Engineering Department of HTU, ING Patricia Asantewa-Tannor encouraged women to aspire to occupy leadership positions in their field of work regardless of challenges. She also entreated them to build their capacities to enable them to acquire the requisite skills to be provided with leadership roles.
