The Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful, has inaugurated a Community ICT Centre for the students, pupils, and people of Agona Abodom in the Central Region with a call on the students especially to take advantage of the investment the government is making to secure their bright future.

According to her, the government believes in their future and that of the country, hence the investment.

She urged them not to disappoint the nation and to study hard to justify the investment.

The Community ICT Centre (CIC) is under the auspices of GIFEC of the Communication and Digitalisation Ministry.

It seeks to enhance livelihoods and increase the adoption of digitisation by providing capacity building for hundreds of ICT teachers and other trainers each year.

The project further seeks to provide technical and resource support for the training of thousands of girls in ICT each year, training of kids in coding and the setting up of coding clubs and training of thousands in ICT skills for entrepreneurship and women’s empowerment over the last few years.

The Agona Abodom Community ICT Centre is among the 30 new CICs being inaugurated this year.

The well-furnished centre has 20 computers, a printer, a scanner, wi-fi, and other necessary facilities needed to make it an ultra-modern centre.

It is to serve not only the town but students and people from nearby communities.

The inauguration of the centre coincided with the climax of the town’s annual Akwambo festival of the people.

Addressing the Durbar of Chiefs and people before the commissioning of the Centre, the minister charged the youth, especially students in the area, to take advantage of the facility and make the investment worthwhile.

The Minister, together with the chiefs, later moved to the centre for the inauguration.

After touring the facility, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekuful spoke to the media about the essence of the centres being put up across the country and her expectations.

The Chief of Agona Abodom, Nana Owiro, thanked the government for such a facility and pledged the town’s readiness to ensure the sustenance and smooth operation of the centre to yield the maximum result.
