The KNUST Chapter of the National Union of Ghana Students, NUGS wants the Vice Chancellor, Dean of Students and the University Relations Officer of the school, to be made to step aside while an independent body is established to investigate the brouhaha on the University campus.
The school has been under the media spotlight after a supposed peaceful students demonstration against what they say is oppression and tyrannical rule of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Obiri Danso turned violent, resulting in the destruction of several private and University facilities on campus including cars and motorbikes.
Management and students have engaged in a blame game with each side accusing the other of being the cause of the fracas.
At a news conference in Kumasi, a representative of the students, Emmanuel Boakye Yiadom said these individuals are mainly to blame for the impasse on campus and must not be in office while investigations go on.
The Chapter President also wants the University’s security personnel to be investigated over the harassment of some students on Friday which led to some of them being hospitalized.
