The Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Education Director, Mr. Samuel Otopa Ntow, has made a passionate appeal to the government through the Ghana Education Service (GES), and the Ministry of Education to help provide the schools in the municipality with more desks for the pupils.

Mr. Ntow noted that though the government has been providing them with desks, they are inadequate for the schools in the municipality.

Mr. Ntow made the appeal during the Grand Finale of the Second Edition of the Densu Industries Annual Independence Day Quiz Competition at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.

Densu-Industries Limited is a manufacturing company established in 1965 at Nsawam in the Eastern Region. As a way of promoting education and instilling the learning of the history of Ghana and patriotism in the young ones, the company, beginning last year in 2023, decided to organize quiz competition dubbed “Densu Industries Independence Day Quiz Competition” for basic schools in their vicinity.

The maiden edition was organised for four schools, however, this year’s edition started with 10 schools from the prelims, with four schools, namely, Reverend Father Wieggers JHS B, Nsawam Presby A&B Basic School, Nana Osae Djan Cluster 5 M/A Basic School, and Nsawam SDA JHS, making it to the final.

The competition, which was in three rounds, involved questions relating to the history of Ghana, governance and politics, general knowledge and religion.

At the end of the contest, Nana Osae Djan Cluster five M/A Basic School emerged victorious with 34 points, Nsawam Presby A&B came second with 30 points, Reverend Father Wieggers JHS B came third with 28 points and Nsawam SDA JHS came fourth with 25 points.

In an interview with GBC NEWS, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipal Education Director, Mr. Samuel Otopa Ntow, appreciated Densu Industries Limited for organising the competition for the pupils and also commended the role the company is playing to promote education in the Municipality.

Touching on the challenges within the education circles in the Municipality, the Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Mr. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, also cited insufficient desks for the pupils.

The Factory Manager of Densu Industries Limited, Mr. Benjamin noted that they decided to organise the competition for the schools to instill the sense of patriotism in the pupils so they could grow into good future leaders.

The contestants for the winning school, Nana Osae Djan Cluster 5 M/A Basic School, noted that the competition has helped them to ”learn about the history of Ghana”.

All contestants and their schools received a certificate, customised book bag, books, water bottle, and some of the company products, with the winning school receiving a plaque.
