Sariki Suleman Issah Mandy, the Zongo Chief of Oduman in the Ga West Municipality, has appealed to the Government for the construction of school blocks, library and an information and communication technology in the community to improve on teaching and learning.
He said he had made available 10 plots of land to facilitate the project to help bring education to the doorsteps of the children.
Sariki Issah Mandy, also the Vice Chairman of the Council of Zongo Chiefs in the Ga West Municipality, made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after meeting with opinion leaders from Ablekuma, Newtown, Abaase, Nsakina, Oshuman and Ga Odumase in the Greater Accra Region.
The meeting discussed what developmental projects the government could sponsor from the Zongo Development Fund to improve the living conditions of the communities.
He said children in the Zongos were forced to have their school lessons in a dilapidated mosque with others having theirs in classrooms constructed through communal labour by residents of Oduman.
The provision of the school facilities was important to improve teaching and learning, he said.
The Chief commended the Government for taring the road from Obeyeyie through to Borkoborkor, which serves about 40 farming communities to facilitate the transportation of their produce to marketing centres.
