Acute infrastructures especially learning desks and chairs is impeding teaching and learning at Ola Senior High School in the Ho Municipality of the Volta region. To help reduce the impact of this challenge on the academic fortunes of the school, the 1983 past students association of the school has donated over 200 examination desks and other learning materials to the school.

The acute shortage of proper learning infrastructure especially learning desks and chairs is a major pressing issue for Ola Senior High School located in the Ho municipality of the Volta region. This according to management of the school is hampering the quality of education offered to its students.

Recognizing this critical challenge, the 1983 Past Students Association of Ola Senior High School, took it upon themselves to make a contribution to address the challenge. The Association has donated over 200 examination desks and other various learning materials to the school.

The Association also organized health screening for students of the school to help address their health concerns and put them in the right health condition for academic works. The gesture forms part of the Association’s 40th homecoming since completing school 40 years ago.

The gesture also seeks to enhance the classroom environment and create a more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.

The President of the POGA 1983, Mrs Peace Apeadu, expressed her delight in giving back to their alma mater. According to her it’s their responsibility to ensure that current and future students have the best possible environment to thrive academically.

“That was a need that the school gave to us so we just gave them the 200 learning chairs for now. Yes, the chairs are highly inadequate and there is the need for us to do more. And I think all the other year groups are also chipping in. So this is a call for others to also join in and assist”, Mrs Apeadu said.

The Head Mistress of Ola Senior High School, Mrs Benedicta Agbezudor, praised the 1983 past students association and said, the gesture will have a lasting positive impact on the academic performance and well-being of students in the school. She called for more assistance as the student population continued to grow thereby outnumbering the available infrastructure, especially learning desks in good condition.

“For our population and at every session where we have about 2000 plus students in the school, we don’t have classroom furniture up to even 1000. Sometimes the students use the Assembly hall chairs in the classroom and now almost all the Assembly hall chairs are spoilt.”, Mrs Agbezudor said.

“And so we need classroom chairs almost to the total number of students we have in the school so that when it is time for examinations the students can use it,”she appealed.

About ten past teachers of the school were also recognized for their efforts towards the development of the school.

The 1983 POGA donation is a testament to the power of alumni giving back to their alma mater. It is hoped that this act of kindness will inspire other alumni and stakeholders to join hands in improving educational infrastructure across the country, ensuring that all students have access to quality education in a conducive environment.
