President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an eight-member committee to organize the National Education Forum, fulfilling his pledge to the people of Ghana. The committee, chaired by former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, has been given two weeks to submit its report and plan for the forum.
The appointed members include distinguished educationists and experts: Professor Goski Alabi, Professor Rosemary Bosu, Samuel Awuku, Ph.D., and Professor Smile Dzisi. Also on the committee are Kofi Asare, Stephen Owusu, and Inusah Shiraz.
The committee’s Terms of Reference (TOR) outline key responsibilities, including developing a theme and sub-themes for the forum, identifying major stakeholders in the education sector, and designing a comprehensive stakeholder engagement agenda. The team will also be responsible for proposing a venue and date, setting up a secretariat to document activities, drafting a budget, and compiling a detailed report with recommendations.
Additionally, the committee will draft a national education policy framework and propose an action plan for implementing recommendations within three weeks after the forum.
This initiative underscores President Mahama’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s education sector through broad consultations and strategic policy planning.
The forum is expected to bring together key stakeholders, including students, parents, teachers, researchers, development partners, civil society organizations, religious bodies, political parties, chiefs, and education policymakers, to deliberate on critical issues in the education sector.
